Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday asked women if they were afraid of stepping out on the streets. “Are my sisters and mothers afraid of walking or coming out on the roads?” Banerjee asked at a panchayat election rally here in Junglemahal. “Does it mean these incidents are taking place everywhere? Are all men bad? Mind it,the population is on the rise,” she said, admitting that “one or two unfortunate incidents” have taken place. Banerjee attacked local TV channels and alleged that their talk show panelists are “paid money to spread lies”.

“Some TV channels are being nourished with the CPM funding,” Banerjee said.
