A tattoo on the left arm of the 26-year-old woman whose body was found dumped on a pavement in Park Street area on Saturday has proved to be a vital clue for the police in their hunt for the killers.
“Two names – Rima and Sameer – that are tattooed on her left hand could lead us to the murderers,’’ said a police officer. “Rima might be the victim’s nickname. We are trying to find out this Sameer is,” he added.
According to sources, the woman had gone to a bar in Park Street on Friday night, where she got drunk with a group of people. A primary post-mortem report revealed the presence of liquor in her stomach. Police said her body was dumped at the crossing between AJC Bose Road and Ripon Street at around 12 am. They have been questioning several people. “Since there was a lot of movement in the area, it is difficult to believe that a body was dumped there and nobody noticed,” said an officer.
The police had found only one injury mark on the body, which was on the throat. The preliminary post-mortem report indicated that the woman had been smothered.
Locals had first noticed the body, lying between an ATM and the entrance to a hotel, at around 5.30 am on Saturday, after which they had informed the police. A thin blanket had been place on the body. A small piece of cloth and cigarette butts were also found at the crime scene.
