Kolkata: Four of family injured in house collapse due to heavy rain

According to the police, a room on the first floor of the 90-feet building collapsed injuring four members of a family.

FOUR PEOPLE, including two minors, were injured when an old house caved in due to heavy rain near Narkeldanga police station here on Wednesday morning. While there were no casualties, the injured were discharged after primary medication in ESI hospital.

According to the police, a room on the first floor of the 90-feet building collapsed injuring four members of a family.

Five adults and three minors had been present in the house at the time of the incident.

The incident created panic amongst nearby residents.

According to Joint Commissioner of Police (Headquarters) Supratim Sarkar, the injured were identified as Md Arif (21), Md Azim (9), Alina Khatoon (20) and Ashia Khatoon (17). The house that collapsed was under ward number 28, and had been in bad shape for a long time.

A Kolkata Municipal Corporation official also visited the area after the incident.

Locals alleged that civic bodies came into action only after a tragic incident. They added that people residing near such dangerous structures had often complained to civic bodies to demolish these, but to no avail.
