Eleven people were on Saturday arrested for allegedly beating up police officers. All barring one woman received conditional bail from court, police said, adding the accused were at a party that played loud music till late night. Initially, residents of Gariahat Road had asked the organiser to stop the music, which was reportedly causing problems for those in the vicinity, including the elderly.

However, police said, the main organiser Satrajit Ghosh Das, whose birthday was being celebrated, allegedly paid no heed to them following which the police were called. After police arrived at the house , Das initially agreed to turn down the music. However, after the team left, people at the party allegedly barged into the neighbour’s house and started beating up residents there, including an elderly lady identified as Ranu Pramanik.
When the police arrived at the scene again, they too were reportedly hit.
“There were three women who started beating us. We didn’t have any female officers with us at the time, so we retreated. Afterwards, a force came from Gariahat police station and arrested the accused,” said a senior police officer.
The accused, including three women, were booked under various sections of the IPC.
