Death of SFI leader Mondal say they were two with only sticks,so how could they beat up busload of activists.

Biswajit Mondal, the injured home guard who was in the bus from which SFI leader Sudipta Gupta allegedly fell, was shifted from SSKM to Belle Vue Clinic last night because of the serious nature of his injuries.

“It was also done considering the security issue. He might have been attacked at the government hospital,” said a senior police official.

Mondal,26,told The Indian Express: “How is it possible that two homeguards armed with sticks beat up a busload of students? We ourselves were intimidated right from the time we boarded the bus at Esplanade to escort the students to Alipore Presidency Jail. They hurled abuses at us and later beat us up. Sudipta was standing on the foot board and I kept asking him to go inside the bus,but he didn’t listen. He fell from the bus and hit the lamp post.”

Inside the Intensive Therapy Unit (ITU) at Belle Vue Clinic,Mondal was gasping for breath with every sentence he spoke. He said he had been badly beaten up by the students in the bus. “They snatched my lathi and beat me with it. I have bruises all over my body,” he said.

Purnendu Mondal,Biswajit’s elder brother, who is also a Kolkata Police employee, said he would quit his job as soon as Biswajit returns home.

“We risk our lives to do our duty and then we not only get beaten up,but the media makes us look like the heartless villain. I don’t want such a job. I would rather work as a daily wage earner,” Purnendu said. He is posted with the security council office.

Sobbing by his brother’s side,Purnendu said,“I have asked our parents not to visit him because my mother is a heart patient and my father is aged and might not be able to take the shock.”

Biswajit, hailing from Notun Haat in Behala’s Shivrampur, said,“I miss my two-year-old son the most. My wife and parents will not be able to see me like this.”

Asked what he would do after he is released from hospital,he said,“I have a long service in front of me but I am afraid now. I belong to a middle class family. If I die next time something like this happens, what will happen to my family?”

While the SFI filed an FIR under Sections 304 IPC (punishment for culpable homicide not amounting to murder) and 114 (abettor present when offence is committed),Biswajit filed a counter FIR under Sections 307 (attempt to murder) and 332 (voluntarily causing hurt to deter public servant from his duty).
