It was mayhem at the BC Roy Hospital for Children on Sunday night after the hospital’s security guard allegedly manhandled a woman whose five-month infant died at the hospital this afternoon.

Sunita Haldar of Nabadwip in Nadia alleged that her five month old baby died at the hospital because of negligence in treatment. Having seen his infant’s health condition deteriorate, she had approached the on-duty nurse who had allegedly made abusive remarks at her.

Later, the hospital security guard pushed her by her neck when she had complained of medical negligence, she alleged.

Hospital superintendent Dilip Paul said: brushed aside the allegations, but said a probe would be conducted into the alleged “rough handling” of a child’s mother by the hospital security guard.

“On an average five children die in the hospital every day. One unfortunate death has occurred. We have tried our best to save the infant’s life. On an average, the hospital treats 300-350 children every day. About 60-70 children are brought to the hospital from districts.

Locals allege medical negligence had led to the death of five children at the hospital in less than 24 hours.
