Highest number of suicides in West Bengal: Report

In a report — Accidental Deaths and Suicides in India 2011— released recently by the government,it has been revealed that the number of suicides have increased in 2011 by 0.7 per cent compared to the previous year.

New Delhi:In a report — Accidental Deaths and Suicides in India 2011— released recently by the government,it has been revealed that the number of suicides have increased in 2011 by 0.7 per cent compared to the previous year. West Bengal has reported the highest number of suicides (16,492) accounting for 12.2 per cent followed by Tamil Nadu (15,963) and Maharashtra (15,947). “West Bengal has reported the highest number of suicide victims in 2009,second highest in 2010 and highest in 2011”,the report said.

BSNL call centre for landline users soon

Kolkata:Bharat Sanchar Nigam (BSNL) will set up a call centre in the state specially for registration of complaints by its landline and broadband users. “By end of July,we will have one call center for entire West Bengal for landline and broadband subscribers,” CGM Somnath Maity told PTI here.
