Calcutta High Court Tuesday asked the Centre to take a final call on the deportation of Sukharanjan Bali after August 20. Bali is a Bangladeshi national who is lodged in Dum Dum prison.
On August 3,the SC passed an order staying the extradition of Bali for two weeks and asked the High Court to dispose the petition quickly.
The petition alleged that he might be persecuted if he returned to Bangladesh as he had turned hostile from being a government witness. Balis counsel advocate Debasish Banerjee said he plans to approach the Division Bench of the SC to challenge the High Court order.
Bali was the prime prosecution witness of the Bangladesh government before the International Crimes Tribunal in Delawar Hossain Sayedee case of war crimes committed during the war for Independence in 1971.
