The four Railway employees  of north Kolkata’s Chitpur, arrested on charges of raping a colleague, were produced in Sealdah court Sunday and sent to police custody till August 2.

A Group D employee in her late 20s accused Jeet Lal, Manish Gwala, Raju Mondal and Gajendra Trivedi of raping her several times over at Chitpur rail yard.

At present, the victim is at NRS Hospital’s maternity ward. “She would need medicines as well as psychological treatment,” said a official of NRS Hospital.

The victim was given job on compassionate ground in the Railways after she lost her husband in the Gyaneshwari Express derailment in 2010. She said she had remarried and the atrocities continued even after she became pregnant.

Alleging police apathy, the woman said police had initially not only refused to take her complaint but also raised questions about her character .

With the intervention of Utpal Sarkar, SP, Sealdah GRP, errant police officers, Apurba Chakraborty, OC, Dum Dum GRP and in-charge of the Chitpur GRP outpost, were ‘closed’ (removed) Saturday.
