The CID today said it had failed to file a chargesheet in the Kamduni rape-murder case within the deadline promised by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee because the forensic report is still awaited.

“We have not submitted the chargesheet in the gangrape and murder case. Hopefully by the end of this week we will be able to submit it,” ADG (CID) Sivaji Ghosh said today.

“We are yet to get the Central Forensic Science Laboratory report. After we get it we will submit the chargesheet,” Ghosh added.

The Chief Minister, during her June 17 visit to Kamduni village in North 24 Parganas district, had promised that the chargesheet would be filed within seven-eight days.

Kamduni has been simmering with tension since the rape and murder of a college girl on June 7,which triggered a wave of protests across the state demanding security for women.
