Battered by the Trinamool Congress, the Left Front on Monday described the results of the panchayat elections not a true reflection of the opinion on Bengal’s rural voters.

Left Front chairman Biman Bose said: “The ruling Trinamool Congress had been involved in extensive rigging, spreading terror right from the campaigning process till the attacks today. They had their full support of the police as well as some of the State Election Commission officers.”

He alleged that many of their counting agents were beaten up and driven out of the counting centres. He even alleged that many ballots, voted in favour of the Left, had been destroyed and many rejected votes of the Trinamool were forcefully added to the party’s count.

“There have been such instances in Burdwan,Howrah,Hooghly and North 24-Parganas. The Trinamool had prepared a masterplan long before the election and worked according to it in terms of spreading violence and winning the election in an unfair manner. I must say they had diligently stuck to the plan to achieve desired results. In short, wherever the Trinamool had spread terror, they had won,” he said.

On the role of the State Election Commission,he said: “They had taken precautionary measures, but did not implement them properly. Election was rigged, tampered with and manipulated. But the SEC failed to stop it,” he said.

Asked what about the places where the Left has done well,he said,“There the TMC never thought us as threat and did not let loose their terror machinery,” he said.
