FOUR PERSONS were killed in two accidents at East Midnapore district early on Sunday. At around 2 am, three friends, Surjit Hazra, Manab Mondal and Spandan Jana — aged between 25 and 30 years — were returning home on a motorcycle after pandal hopping where they were allegedly hit by a vehicle travelling at high speed from behind. The accident happened on National Highway-41, between Kolaghat and Haldia.
While the driver fled with the vehicle, locals rushed the three injured to Tamluk Hospital where they were declared brought dead, police said. A case has been registered at Kolaghat police station.
In another incident, around midnight, one Deepak Manna died after losing control of his car and ramming it into a tree. The accident took place on the VIP Road near Helipad Madian of Haldia Township. Prima facie investigation shows a technical snag might have caused the accident, said police. “Manna’s Swift Dzire hit a tree and caught fire. A patrolling car of Haldia Township Police saw the car and alerted the fire brigade. A team from Haldia police station reached the spot. He was declared brought dead at the hospital,” said a police officer.
