The widow of sub-inspector Prabal Roy,who had died in a car crash on Monday, committed suicide by hanging herself at their apartment on Tiljala Road.
She had returned from France and went straight to the hospital and then to the cremation ghat. From there she was taken to her sisters place and later she returned alone, took the lift to the fifth floor and hung herself. She kept on saying Tumi amai chhere chole gele. Amio tomar shonge jabo (You have left me. I will follow you), said Naushad, son of the landlord of the apartment building. He said their driver called her a number of times Tuesday night and also knocked at the door. After getting no response,he raised an alarm and informed Naushad. We went up to the terrace, tied a person with a rope and dropped him to the window to see if anything was visible inside. He said her body was hanging from the ceiling fan. With the help of police officers,we broke open the door and brought her down but by then she was dead. There were some pills on the floor as well, Naushad said. A neighbour living opposite to the Roys said,They were a very cordial couple. We have never heard them fight. They greeted us whenever we met. As far as I know, they did not have any kids.
Roy died early morning on April 1,in a car crash which killed another sub-inspector and injured four others.
