GOVERNOR M K Narayanan on Wednesday expressed shock over the SFI’s protest in Delhi in which Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee was ghearoed and Finance Minister Amit Mitra roughed up,and called it as “pre-meditated assault”.

In a press statement issued by the Raj Bhavan,Narayanan said,“The shocking pre-meditated assault on the Chief Minister, the Finance Minister and other senior ministers of West Bengal in the national capital yesterday,is an extremely unfortunate incident and a blot on India’s cherished democratic values. The incident deserved to be condemned in the strongest terms.”

In a stinging criticism,he demanded that the CPM politburo should tender an apology. “Those responsible for the attack and their instigators have forfeited their right to function within a democratic framework. This kind of attack on a democratically elected CM,and cabinet colleagues is unprecedented in India’s modern history, and is serious enough to warrant a public apology by the politburo of the CPM.”

The Governor also urged the ruling Trinamool as well as others to maintain calm.

Narayanan ignorant of politburo: Biman

Senior CPM leader Biman Bose hit back at the Governor for demanding an apology from the CPM politburo saying the veteran IPS officer was ignorant about how the politburo works. ”He might be knowing how the police operate and may be also how other political parties operate. But he doesn’t have knowledge on how the politburo and CPM committees operate. That is why he said so. It is his ignorance,” Bose said.
