CPM leader shot in Kultali

A CPM leader was today shot dead in broad daylight in Kultali in South 24 Parganas.

A CPM leader was today shot dead in broad daylight in Kultali in South 24 Parganas. The deceased was a member of the CPM local committee in the area. He was returning from an all-party meeting called by the local Panchayat.

Iccha Gayen,the 42-year-old CPM leader,after attending the all-party meeting,was having lunch at a nearby hotel where he was shot dead by bike-borne miscreants. According to witnesses,four bike-borne miscreants reached the spot and shot him. The miscreants then fled from the hotel.

Praveen Tripathi,SP,South 24 Parganas said,“We have sent the body for autopsy. We are yet to receive a complaint. However,we have started a murder case.”

Protesting against the murder,the CPM leadership has called a 12-hour strike in South 24 Parganas tomorrow. Sujon Chakraborty,CPM district secretary and a state committee member said,“It is a shame for the administration that a person was killed in broad daylight,that too after a meeting called by the local administration. We have called a strike to protest against this incidence of political killing.”
