The CPM,the principal opposition party in Bengal, has come down heavily on the ruling Trinamool Congress and condemned the murder of its leaders, alleging that it was part of planned attacks on the Left front regime.

Opposition leader Surya Kanta Mishra said,“Trinamool Congress has become desperate after witnessing the huge turnout at our Brigade rally on Sunday”.

Former commerce and industry minister and CPM leader Nirupam Sen alleged it was a pre-planned murder by Trinamool and demanded immediate arrest of the attackers. CITU leader Shyamal Chakraborty said protests would be organised across the state.

WBPCC president Pradip Bhattacharya said that the armed attack on a political procession and killing of CPM leaders was “highly condemnable”.

“It is high time that politics of killing be stopped forthwith,” he added.

State Congress leader Omprakash Mishra said the incident was not only condemnable, but a shameful act “which reflects that politics of revenge has been prevailing in the state”. State BJP chief Rahul Sinha blamed “provocative statements” issued by Trinamool for the violence.
