After the death of Kishenji, the face of Bengal Maoists, the frontal organisations of CPI-Maoists in the Lalgarh-Jhargram tribal belt have started switching allegiance to Trinamool Congress-led organisations and groups. The first such organisation which completely switched to the TMC after Kishenji’s death is Nari Ijjat Bachao Committee, the female wing of the PCAPA.

Jyotsna Mahato, the chief of the Nari Ijjat Bachao Committee, has joined the TMC-led anti-Maoist Jana-Jagaran Mancha after she was repeatedly threatened by Mancha leaders.

“All the senior leaders are out of the area but I cannot leave my village. My younger brother and sister live here and it is not possible for us to stay here without joining the Mancha,” said Jyotsna.

“I had to switch over. In last five to six days,Nishit Mahato, chief of Bhairav Vahini used to come to my house everyday with his men on 12-13 bikes. They gheraoed my house and threatened us,” she said.

She further said she had created Nari Ijjat Bachao Committee to fight for the people of Sonamukhi in Jhargram and the women of Junglemahal.

“But the people for whom we are fighting have shifted their allegiance to the ruling party. And if we want to survive,we have to be with them,” she added.

When asked if she faced threat from the Maoists,Jyotsna said,“If they want to kill me they can do that. But since most senior leaders of the party have shifted their allegiance, what can they expect from us.”

A senior police official said Maoists’ frontal organisations including Nari Ijjat Bachao Committee,PCAPA,the students organisation and the Dushan Birodhi Mancha have lost their relevance in the absence of top leadership.
