The state Congress on Sunday dismissed the authorities’ claim that it was not the police but a miscreant who snatched a police gun and killed a housewife,Rajeshwari Mullick,at Bagulia in Nadia district on Saturday.

“Was it Indra from the heavens who did that? It is all canard being spread by the police who killed the wife of our worker. I have had a word with the chief minister and demanded that the state government hand over the investigation to the CBI,” Pradip Bhattacharya, president of WBPCC,today told The Indian Express.

Thirty-six year old Rajeshwari was killed after the police allegedly opened fire to disperse a violent mob that clashed with the cops during immersion of Goddess Durga’s idols at Bagulia at Nadia district on Saturday morning.

The police claimed some miscreants snatched a gun of a policeman and fired on the mob.

At the same time,it also suspended three policemen. The state government has ordered a magisterial inquiry into the incident.

The Congress, which called a bandh at Bagulia on Sunday, will observe a ‘black day’ on Monday throughout the state.
