The CPM on Monday alleged that the ruling Trinamool Congress unleashed a reign of terror in the four districts of Nadia,Murshidabad,Birbhum and Malda that went to the polls Monday.

“The fourth phase of the eighth edition of the panchayat polls was held today. It is going to be the bloodiest panchayat election. Members of the ruling party hijacked the poll process in several booths leading to wanton malpractices. While in Nadia,97 booths were captured,at Birbhum 70 booths were captured. In Murshidabad,23 booths were captured,’’ said party state secretary Biman Bose at a press conference at state party headquarters at Alimuddin Street.

He also alleged that Trinamool cadres had warned people against casting their votes. “I went to address a rally at Setai in Coochbehar district. There I heard people were told not to come to the rallies. Shop owners were told not to open their shops. This is something unprecedented in West Bengal. Here, only the Trinamool Congress and no other party are able to campaign,’’ Bose also said.

Bose blamed Mamata’s provocative remarks for poll-related violence. “The CM has gone to Mathabhanga in Coochbehar today to address a rally. We don’t know how many heads she will ask for. She never appealed for peace and stopping of violence. When a CM instigates violence,it spells disaster,’’ Bose said.
