Two persons have sustained serious injuries in an explosion that took place while they were manufacturing firecrackers at a factory in Baruipur area of South 24 Parganas. The owner of the factory, in whose house the firecrackers were being manufactured on Friday, has been arrested. “A case has been registered against the owner Uttam Baidya… he was arrested on Saturday,” Baruipur SP Arijit Sinha said.

The two injured have been identified as Rudra Mondal (18) and Subho Mondal (20). They have been admitted to MR Bangur Hospital in Kolkata, said sources. Sources in the police said that due to upcoming Diwali festival, firecrackers were being manufactured on a large scale at the factory.
