BJP bypoll candidate manhandled by TMC supporters in Kolkata

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Chowrangi bypoll candidate Ritesh Tiwari was on Thursday manhandled while holding a roadshow in the constituency.

The incident occurred on the last day of campaigning for the Chowrangi assembly bypoll, which is scheduled for September 13.

Members of the Trinamool Congress (TMC) and the BJP clashed after an altercation broke out between BJP candidate Ritesh Tiwari and the election agents of TMC candidate Nayana Banerjee.

The BJP leaders claimed that the clash took place at around 11.30 am at Ganesh Chandra Avenue in central Kolkata in presence of police personnel.

As many as 10 BJP supporters were injured in the clash. A team of RAF had to be deployed to bring the situation under control. BJP president Rahul Sinha, who was about to join the roadshow, termed the incident as ‘an act of desperation by the TMC’.

BJP candidate Ritesh Tiwari said that a complaint would be lodged with Muchipara police station after the rally is over. Meanwhile, the TMC leaders claimed that they were attacked by a bikers of BJP and the party would lodge a complaint with the local police station.
