CHIEF MINISTER Mamata Banerjee on Monday ordered a CID probe into the death of Mita Mondal and promised the family members of the deceased, who visited her at the Secretariat today, adequate action.
After meeting Mita’s father Sahadeb Das, her uncle Ranajit Das and two elder brothers — Bappa and Kokhon — Mamata promised a job for one member of the family.
She also promised to clear a debt of Rs 70,000, which Sahadeb had taken for Mita’s marriage, from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund and payment of his medical expenses.
“They are a very poor family. One member of the family will be given a job and the debt of Rs 70,000 which they had taken during the girl’s marriage, will be cleared from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund… And I have ordered the CID to inquire into the matter,” the CM said.
The family met Mamata for around an hour after they received a call from Nabanna. “Criminal cases against women will be handled by topmost agencies. The government is keeping a close watch on Mita’s death and probe,” said Chief Secretary State Basudeb Banerjee.
Later, Sahadeb said: “She was extremely warm and extended all help from her side. She appreciated that Mita was well educated despite we being so poor. It was kind of her to offer a job to one member of our family… I am satisfied that she has taken my daughter’s death so seriously. We appealed to her for justice.”
A CID team has left for Uluberia to probe the matter, said source.
