Kolkata: The police on Thursday arrested Gautam Pal,named in an FIR in connection with the alleged molestation of the daughter of retired scientist Aparesh Bhattacharjee in his house at Baruipur on Sunday noon. Gautam Pal was produced at Baruipur court,which remanded him in police custody for three days.
Pravin Tripathy,SP of South 24Parganas,said that Gautam Pal was arrested from Baruipur Thursday morning.
According to a source,Gautam Pal went to the Baruipur court for consultation with his lawyer. Following a tip-off,the police was waiting at the court area,where they arrested him. He was then taken to Baruipur police station.
According to the police,Gautam Pal was present during the incident. Police slapped non-bailable Sections under IPC against him for assaulting and molesting the daughter of the scientist.
Pal had rented out a portion of his house to the Bhattacherjee family. Recently,he had asked them to leave the house,following a dispute on the property.
Power cut hits two hospitals,Metro
KolkataThere was power cut at two state-run hospitals Calcutta Medical College and Hospital and NRS Medical College and Hospital for around an hour after the sub-station at Prinsep Street received a technical fault. Metro services were also disrupted for 15 minutes.
Patients,especially those admitted in the emergency department,and passengers of Metro had a difficult time following the power cut.
SSC exams to be held on July 29
KolkataThe West Bengal School Service Commission (SSC) on Thursday decided that SSC examinations would be conducted on July 29.
Earlier,it was decided that SSC examinations would be conducted on July 22.
As Trinamool Congresss Martyrs Day programme has been scheduled to be be organised on July 21,the date was deferred.
Officials of the department said the date of the examination was deferred keeping in mind the convenience of the students.
