The Calcutta High Court today granted bail to S K Todi, one of the directors of AMRI hospital, who was also an accused in the fire incident. After today’s order, all the nine directors arrested by the Kolkata Police in connection the fire have been released on bail.

Out of the 13 arrested persons in connection with the fire,12 have been released on bail. Sajid Hussain is the only accused in jail custody now. Three directors —Rahul Todi,Preeti Surekha and Aditya Argwal — have been absconding since the incident.

Ranjit Kumar, counsel of Todi, raised the arguments that Todi was not an executive director of the hospital and that he was not involved with the day-today affairs of the hospital. As there are 455 witnesses in the chargesheet,it would take few years to complete the trial. Todi can face trial outside custody, therefore,no detention was required,he argued. Meanwhile, families of victims who lost their life in the fire incident at AMRI,formed a Human Health Right Forum’ in January. After the release of the all the directors of the hospital,Paromita Purakashthya, spokesperson of the organisation, said,“It is shocking that all the directors have been released on bail’’. Paromita, who lost her mother in the fire, hinted that they would take legal consultancy on this matter.
