Alert Metro Rail staff members have managed to save a woman’s life on Thursday.

Alert Metro Rail staff members have managed to save a woman’s life on Thursday. Mangala Garia (40),who is a resident of Canal West Road,was about to board a Dum Dum-bound Metro at Shyambazar Metro Station when she slipped and fell and her right foot got trapped in the gap between the platform and the car. It was the first door of the first compartment of the train that she was trying to get into. She immediately began shouting for help. Seeing this,Subir Ghosh,the driving motor man and the Rabi Bhakat,the conducting motor man,swung into action. Before her feet touched the Third Rail Current Connector (TRCC),one of them switched the third rail power off and the other managed to pulled her out. Later,she was taken to RG Kar hospital for treatment and in the evening,her condition was reported to have been stable.

High Court grants bail to 3 students

The Calcutta High Court on Thursday granted bail to three students who were in jail custody for assaulting the principal of Sudhir Ranjan Lahiri College,at Majdia in the Nandia district. The public prosecutor of the state did not raise any argument to oppose the bail plea. On January 7,the students of SFI allegedly assaulted the principal of the college and police arrested Pranab Ghosh,Pushpen Sakar and Abhijit Haldar,belonging to the SFI.

HC extends order on police associations

Calcutta High Court extended the interim order on the issue of de-recognition of two police associations in the state. The court asked the state not to evict the offices of the West Bengal Police Association from their premises.
