Chit funds claimed another life in the state today as another agent committed suicide and an investor attempted to end his life.

Ujjal Samadder,a 26-year-old residing at Harishpur in Bashirhat of North 24 Parganas,died this morning. He worked as a commission agent of Sunmarg micro finance company,which closed down about six months ago.

Ujjal had been working for six months and had collected Rs 3.5 lakh from 35 clients. Depositors had started visiting his place and insulting him.

Today,his wife found his body hanging from the fan in their bedroom. Officials of Bashirhat police station sent the body for post-mortem. Nimai Samadder,a retired teacher,said his son Ujjal was suffering from depression.

In another incident,Shahinur Islam,a 16-year-old student,attempted suicide last night. Shahinur worked as a casual labourer and had deposited Rs 60,000 with Saradha Group hoping for good returns.

His father Md Ali said the Saradha agent was not reachable and Shahinur was depressed. Last night,he burnt the receipts of all his deposits and consumed poison. He was taken to Jalpaiguri District Hospital and had to be shifted to the ITU. Doctors said he was out of danger.
