WBPCC chief Adhir Chowdhury Saturday met the woman whose three sons were killed at Labhpur in Birbhum four years ago and assured justice in the case in which name of a TMC MLA had cropped up. Handing over Rs 20,000 to Zarina Bibi, Chowdhury said “We believe that our judicial system is strong enough to punish an MLA if he commits any crime.”

The name of Trinamool Congress MLA Manirul Islam had cropped up in the murder, but his name was not in the chargesheet. Zarina Bibi had on June 30 filed a petition in the Calcutta High Court seeking a CBI inquiry into the killing of her sons claiming lack of confidence in the police.

She had alleged that she was forced to state that Islam, the Labhpur MLA was not involved in the case during her statement under Section 164 of CrPC though he was named as an accused in the FIR, her counsel Subrata Mukhopadhyay had said.
