51 CPM workers get bail in Siliguri violence case

A local court on Thursday granted bail to 51 CPM leaders and party workers,who had been arrested in connection with an alleged attack on a Trinamool Congress procession in Siliguri on April 10.

A local court on Thursday granted bail to 51 CPM leaders and party workers,who had been arrested in connection with an alleged attack on a Trinamool Congress procession in Siliguri on April 10. Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate of Siliguri,Madhumita Basu,granted them bail for 14 days on a bail bond of Rs 500 each. The 51,including senior CPM leaders Ashok Bhattacharya and Jibesh Sarkar,were present in the court. A clash between the two parties began reportedly when glass bottles filled with liquid were allegedly thrown from CPM party office when a procession of Trinamool workers passed by it. The procession was taken out to protest against the attack on Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and Finance Minister Amit Mitra by CPM’s student wing SFI in New Delhi the previous day. Ashok Bhattacharya,CPM state committee member and former minister,and Sarkar,CPM Darjeeling district secretary,were present at the party office during the incident and were arrested.
