20 dead as bus collides with truck in Dinajpur

At least 20 people died and 22 others were injured when a speeding private bus collided with a truck at Karandighi in North Dinajpur on Thursday afternoon,said Ramanuj Chakraborty,District Magistrate of North Dinjapur.

At least 20 people died and 22 others were injured when a speeding private bus collided with a truck at Karandighi in North Dinajpur on Thursday afternoon,said Ramanuj Chakraborty,District Magistrate of North Dinjapur.

According to police,15 people,including nine women and a child,died on the spot. The driver and the conductor of the bus also died in the accident.

The 22 injured passengers have been admitted to the local and district hospital at Raigang.

According to district administration,the incident occurred at Rahatpur on NH-14 around 1.30 pm when a truck carrying sand collided with the private bus.

The private bus of Bela Travels,packed to capacity,was heading to Siliguri from Hilly.

According to police,the speeding truck and the bus met with the accident when both the vehicles tried to avoid a bicycle carrying two children.

Traffic was affected on the highway for a few hours following the accident.
