The Junagadh Police on Wednesday claimed to have cracked the murder case of three men who were allegedly executed to avenge the death of an auto-rickshaw driver. Two persons were arrested in the case by the police in Jungadh city on Wednesday. Acting on a tip off, the Local Crime Branch (LCB) of Junagadh district police conducted a combing operation in Pancheswar locality near Kalva chowk of Junagadh city and arrested the two men. They were identified as Kala Rabari, a resident of Sanjaynagar area of Junagadh, and Bavamn Rabari of Pancheshwar in Junagadh. They were formally arrested at 9.30 am on Wednesday, police said.
“The duo were part of a mob of 15 to 20 persons who hacked the trio to death on Jafar Maidan on Saturday. Kala was carrying an iron pipe while Bavan was wielding a sword at the time of the incident. They went underground since committing the triple murder,” Babu Chaudhary, police inspector of LCB told The Indian Express.
Mukesh Sarvaiya, an auto-driver, his younger brother Ajay and Mukesh’s friend Amit Parmar, also an auto-driver, were found dead at Jafar Maidan in Junagadh on Sunday morning. Their bodies were found hours after Mukesh allegedly stabbed fellow auto-rickshaw driver Kishan Mori to death on Saturday evening following an argument over ferrying passengers. Police had said on Sunday that the triple murder was apparently committed to avenge Mori’s killing.
“Kala and Bavan belong to the same community as Mori. In fact, they are distant relatives of Mori,” inspector Chaudhary, who is investigating the case, further said.
The LCB said that the trio were killed between 10 PM and 11 PM on Saturday. However, police had come to know about the killings only at 9 AM the
following morning. By then the bodies had partially been eaten by carnivores and turned soggy due to overnight rain. Zafar Maidan is close to the residence of Mori.
“We are investigating as to where did the accused pick the three victims from. Prima facie, it seems that the trio were killed on Jafar Maindan itself. Hunt is on to nab the rest of the accused,” Chaudhary added.
