The Rashtriya Chakma Tribal Sangh (RCTS) on Tuesday lodged an FIR against Central Young Mizo Association (CYMA) for adopting a resolution to abolish the Chakma Autonomous District Council (CADC). The RCTS alleged that the resolution promotes enmity between the majority Mizos and minority Chakmas on grounds of religion, ethnicity, language and race. This comes four weeks after CYMA — an influential Mizoram youth body — adopted a resolution in its 71st general conference for abolishing the CADC.
Drishya Muni Chakma, general secretary of the RCTS said that the passing of the resolution was an offence under Section 153A of the IPC. The resolution has disturbed public tranquillity and the Chakmas are living in fear, while many anti-social elements emboldened by the CYMA resolution have been threatening the Chakma minorities,” he said.
The FIR comes after the CYMA filed an FIR on November 9 against Paritosh Chakma — convener of Mizoram Chakma Areas Single Administration Demand Committee — for making “abusive” remarks against the CYMA.
