A woman teacher, who has been accused of beating up 24 students of a village primary school allegedly for seeking mid-day meal, was arrested on Monday after she surrendered before the Padra taluka police early in the morning. She was later produced before a local court, which granted her bail.
She (Bela Patel) was produced before a magistrate who ordered her release on bail, said sub-inspector M I Prajapati.
Jenti Padhaiar, parent of one of the students of Brahmanvasi Primary School, had lodged a complaint against Patel.
Meanwhile, the Vadodara district primary education officer (DPEO) has assured residents of Brahmanvasi village to transfer four teachers of the school after the students boycotted classes today in protest against the Saturdays incident. The school remained opened from 11 am to 5 pm but none of the 255 students turned up.
DPEO CB Solanki visited the village and met sarpanch Kamlesh Limbachiya, school principal Jiva Jadav,a member of School Management Committee (SMC) and parents of the affected children.
The DPEO has assured us that four teachers who have joined the school in recent years and against whom villagers have complained, will be transferred. Teachers from nearby Kanjat village will run the school… Students will go to school from tomorrow, Limbachiya said.
The four teachers include principal Jadav,Mahendra Jadav,Neelam Parajapati and Julibahen. While the latter two did not report for duty on Monday,Bela Patel has been suspended.
Many complaints were received against the four that they lacked competence and commitment. The villagers demanded their transfer as they used to court controversies, added the sarpanch.
