A city court has convicted the former vice-principal of a Delhi school for harassing an employee on the basis of his scheduled caste status.
Additional Sessions Judge T R Naval held the former vice-principal of a private school in East Delhi,S C Jain, guilty of committing atrocity.
The court passed the order on a complaint by Surat Singh, who claimed Jain had stopped him from doing his job as water server and asked him to work as sweeper instead. The switch in job, said Singh, came after the Jain came to know that he belonged to the Jatav community,a scheduled caste.
According to prosecution, when Singh joined the school in 2007 the vice-principal told him that the senior staff and management at the school were from higher castes, and could not accept water from him.
While convicting Jain, the court acquitted three other school staffers, who were charged along with Jain, saying that the case against them was not proved.
