With the aim of addressing queries of students applying for BTech in Humanities,Delhi University held an Open Day for its meta college course in North Campus on Wednesday. Cluster Innovation Centre (CIC) which will conduct the course has received around 300 applications so far, said Professor Madan Chaturvedi, the CIC head.

Elaborating on structure of this four-year course,Dr Sukrita Paul Kumar, one of the counsellors, said: “As a result of the importance being given to hands-on experience in the course as well as the five specialisations, there will be a lot of opportunities.”

As opposed to a BA degree, this course will give 50 per cent weightage to project work. Students can choose from a range of subjects. Mentors will guide students in “designing their course”.

“The term need not relate only to engineering courses. It is called BTech in Humanities because of the emphasis being given to technical knowledge in these subjects,” Kumar said.

Maithili Attawal had come to inquire about the course for her daughter who has already completed a year at Jesus & Mary College. She said,“My daughter is pursuing BA Programme at JMC and she was interested in the course. But after coming here,I came to know that she will have to drop one year if she wants to pursue this BTech degree.”

Ravinder Soni,a first year BSc Life Sciences student at Kirorimal College, said,“While I will get to study only three papers in Zoology in Life Sciences, under the BTech course I will have the option of taking up other subjects like Chemistry and Botany.”

The counsellors, however, had a word of caution. “The student should select papers in such a way that their classes do not clash,” Kumar said.
