A senior executive of apparel firm Woodland was gunned down outside his Ghaziabad home by two unidentified assailants on Friday morning.
Police said Nitin Sharma (34) was an assistant general manager and zonal head with Woodland.
Police said preliminary investigation suggested that the accused could be among those who had been laid off from work by Sharma a month ago. Sharma had sacked two workers in their mid-20s for dereliction of duty. We suspect that they were involved in the case. Further investigations are in progress and a case has been registered at Indirapuram police station, a police officer said.
Police said the incident took place around 8.30 am when Sharma was parking his car near his home after dropping his daughters in school.
Sharma drops his two daughters,Vanshita (10) and Anshita (6),at Cambridge School every day. As soon as he got out of the car,two men walked up to him. One of them took out a pistol and started shooting at him. Two shots missed him, a police officer said.
After that, the assailants fled through a narrow street where we believe they had parked a motorcycle. Hearing the gunshots,Sharmas wife and other residents of the colony rushed out. Sharma was taken to Shanti Gopal Hospital where he was declared dead, the police officer said.
Sharmas wife Shalini reportedly told police that when she came out of the house, she heard her husband shouting. He was saying Why are you shooting me? What is the reason?,the officer said quoting the mans wife.
Police said he tried to hide behind his car.
His neighbours told police that the two men threatened to shoot at anyone who tried to stop them from fleeing.
