The decomposed body of a 22-year-old woman was found in Buddha Jayanti Park in New Delhi’s Chanakyapuri area on Sunday afternoon. Police said the body was of a woman from Anand Parbat who had been missing for two days.
Police said no external injuries were found on the body and her clothes had not been touched. “After the body was found, we checked all the missing complaints made last week. We found that a woman of the same age had gone missing from Anand Parbat two days ago. We called her family and they identified the body as that of their daughter’s,” a police officer said.
According to police, the cause of death was yet to be ascertained and the body has been sent for a post-mortem examination. “There are no external injury marks on the body.
Since the body has decomposed, it is possible that the injury marks are not visible. So far, we haven’t found any evidence to suspect that she was sexually assaulted. We have sent the body for a post-mortem examination that will ascertain the exact cause of death,” the officer said.
Police suspect the woman had gone to the park, where her body was found, with someone, who killed her and fled. “If the accused had come to the park to dump the body, he could have thrown it anywhere. We suspect the woman was with someone who killed her and then dumped the body there. We have registered a case of murder and begun investigations. If the post-mortem report reveals sexual assault, then we will add appropriate sections to the FIR,” the officer said.
The parents of the woman, who work at a government hospital, said they do not believe their daughter committed suicide. She left home two days ago without informing anyone.
