A 35-year-old woman, alleged to be a thief, was grievously injured when she jumped down two floors in an alleged attempt to evade police. Police said the woman had already jumped across five rooftops before she fell.

The fall, police said, resulted in a severe head injury and a leg fracture. She was arrested and is recuperating in the district hospital, while the police is on the lookout for her male accomplice.

Police said the incident took place around 11am,when the woman and her male accomplice broke into a house in Sector 11,Noida. Their attempt to rob the house was foiled when the owner of the house,Ashish Sahu, returned home earlier than usual.

“When Sahu walked in,he found that the two had gathered the valuables in the house and were about to leave. When Sahu raised the alarm, the male accused attacked him with a rod and fled,” Vishwajeet Srivastava,DSP (Noida),said.

Meanwhile, police said, the woman made a run for the roof. Sahu alerted his neighbours and police. When police arrived, they found someone hiding on the building’s roof. “It was the woman. When she realised that she was cornered, she tried to escape and jumped across five rooftops. With nowhere else to go,she then jumped down two floors,” Srivastava said.

Police said the woman fell through the roof of a toilet of a neighbouring house. She sustained injuries that prevented her from moving further, police said.
