When four men,two dressed as policemen, tried to force their way into Seema Sachdeva’s house in Gurunanakpura colony,Modinagar, she knew something was amiss. As she resisted, they threatened her with knives. Not ready to back down,Sachdeva grabbed hold of one of the robbers and snatched his knife, forcing all four to flee.

Around 2 pm on Friday, the robbers rang the doorbell of Sachdeva’s house. “I was alone at home with my mother-in-law on the second floor of the house. The looters tried to push me back inside the house so they could enter and hold us hostage,” said Sachdeva,a housewife. She has reportedly told the police that two of the robbers were dressed in jeans, while the others were wearing police uniform. “They brandished weapons, asking me to remain quiet and let them enter the house easily. I started shouting for help. I snatched the knife from one of the looters and tried to catch him,” she said. Hearing Sachdeva’s call for help, her mother-in-law Sheela, too, started shouting for help — forcing the robbers to flee.

In a similar show of courage,a woman caught hold of the hand of a motorcycle-borne looter who was attempting to snatch her purse. Prema Pandeya, the victim, was attacked when she was returning home in Harola village,Noida, from her workplace in Sector-5. She grabbed the hand of the snatcher and with the help of a passerby, handed him over to the police. A case has been registered at the Sector-20 police station.
