A 58-year-old woman was allegedly robbed at gunpoint at her Batla House residence in Jamia Nagar on Thursday afternoon. In her statement, the woman told police that the robbers had fled with jewellery kept inside her locker.

Police said Abida Begum,a housewife, was alone at home when four masked men broke into her house around 11 am. “Her husband,Mohammad Aslam, who owns a shop in Sadar Bazaar, had left. None of us in the neighbourhood got to know about the incident. We heard Begum shouting only after the incident,” said Faraz Khan,a neighbour. “They had locked her from outside. When we opened the door,we found her sitting on the floor in a state of shock.”

Another neighbour,Nausheen, said,“Her hands and legs were tied with a rope, and she was gagged. They stole jewellery that she had bought for her daughter, who is living with her husband in Kolkata.”

Additional Commissioner of Police Ajay Chaudhary said,“There were three to four robbers, but they did not injure the woman. We are looking for suspects.”
