Woman journalist fights molesters in Mayur Vihar,takes one to police

When the accused spotted the journalist,they began passing lewd remarks and attempted to molest her.

A 25-year-old TV journalist was allegedly molested on Thursday evening near a public school in East Delhi’s Mayur Vihar area. The woman,police said,fought back the two men,both rickshaw pullers. She even managed to catch one of them,who was later handed handed over to police.

The incident,police said,was reported around 7 pm,near Alcon Public School in Mayur Vihar Phase-I,when the woman was returning home.

When the accused,Shafiq and Fantoosh,spotted the journalist,they began passing lewd remarks and attempted to molest her,police said.

Sources said the woman initially ignored them,but when they continued making obscene gestures and tried to molest her,she raised an alarm.

“Soon,people gathered at the spot and the woman managed to catch hold of Shafiq,while Fantoosh managed to escape. Shafiq was then handed over to the police” a senior police officer said.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (East) Ajay Kumar said,“We have registered a case under section 354 (molestation) of the IPC at the Pandav Nagar police station. Shafiq has been arrested. Efforts are being made to arrest his relative Fantoosh.”
