In the latest addition to a growing list of suicide cases in Gurgaon,a 25-year-old woman working in a private bank allegedly jumped off the terrace of the MG Road Metro station on Thursday. The incident took place around 11 am.
Priya Khandelwal,who hailed from Mathura and was married,sustained multiple fractures and head injuries.
She was taken to the Uma Sanjeevni Hospital and later shifted to Medanta-Medicity Hospital where she succumbed to injuries later in the day.
According to police,Priya has been living in Gurgaon for three months and was working in the branch of a private bank located in Sector 14. She was married to a chartered accountant working in Delhi.
Police said they were yet to ascertain why she decided to take her own life. They are examining CCTV footage from the MG Road Metro station to see if she jumped on her own or if she was pushed by someone.
The body has been sent for a post-mortem examination.
Police have seized Priyas mobile phone and are going through her call details.
Eyewitnesses told police that Priya was talking to someone on her cellphone just before she jumped off the Metro station building.
One of the guards posted outside a shopping mall near the Metro station said,I heard a loud noise and rushed to see what had happened. Other onlookers too had gathered. We found the woman lying on the ground in a pool of blood. She was rushed to hospital.
DCP (East) Maheshwar Dayal said: Priya had earlier lodged a case in Mathura against her in-laws,alleging harassment. But no action was taken. We are investigating all aspects. We have registered a case of abetment to suicide against her in-laws.
