The 11th Auto Expo opened on Thursday at Pragati Maidan, but the roads near the venue had their own share of vehicle show as traffic remained slow.

According to Delhi Traffic Police,no jams were reported, but heavy volume of traffic led to sluggish movement of vehicles on Mathura Road.

“With the number of vehicles that came in,the sluggish movement of traffic was inevitable. There was slow movement of vehicles on Mathura Road, near ITO,and in front of Pragati Maidan near the Delhi Zoo. Some instances of congestion was reported near Sundar Nagar crossing as well,” said Sanjay Tyagi,Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic-New Delhi).

The traffic police had on Wednesday issued an advisory for the five-day event, which will end on January 11.

The measures in place to avoid congestion include no parking on Mathura Road and Bhairon Marg, and a bar on U-turns on Mathura Road. The right turn from Mathura Road to Purana Qila Road and Bhagwan Dass Road will also not be allowed for the duration of the Auto Expo.

Officials said any vehicle found parked on Mathura Road will be towed away and fines will be charged from the offenders.
