The Delhi Metro is in the process of instaling panels at its stations detailing the unique features of the building. The memorabilia panels will have interesting information pertaining to the station and in the first phase will be put up at 12 stations.
For instance, the panel at Chhatarpur station talks of how it is the only station that is made of steel while the one at Chawri Bazar talks of the deepest station on the Metro network.
Other stations that will get the memorabilia panels under the first phase are: Moolchand,Rajiv Chowk,Govindpuri,Pragati Maidan,Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium,Patel Chowk,Shahdara,Central Secretariat,Kashmere Gate and HUDA City Center.
Kashmere Gate, the first interchange station of the entire network, will talk of its experiences while HUDA City Center,a green station with rainwater harvesting facilities, will narrate how it came about to be Gurgaons architectural landmark being the biggest Metro station of the Millennium City.
The extra-dosed bridge at Pragati Maidan, the longest span at Okhla, the signature bridge at Moolchand, the Metro museum at Patel Chowk,a tunnel below another at Rajiv Chowk will be some of the highlights that Delhi Metro has planned in the first phase of the panels.
The Delhi Metro has 139 stations apart from the six stations of the Airport Metro Express Line, and officials claim that most stations have a story of its own.
The panels will be made of stainless steel.
This idea is borrowed from Metro systems across the world and aims at creating awareness among the commuters about Delhi Metros history and evolution. With this,we hope we will be able to draw commuters attention to these interesting facts about the stations and engage them in participating in the evolution of the Metro system, said a Delhi Metro spokesperson.
