Protesting against the kidnapping and murder of a 13-year-old girl on Saturday, the girl’s family members and residents of Jahangirpuri in Northwest Delhi allegedly vandalised cars and other vehicles in the area on Wednesday.

Police said on Tuesday, the irate mob had damaged three DTC buses. Following this, a case of damaging public property was registered.

But the protests spilled over to Wednesday with schoolchildren pelting stones and residents demanding one of the two houses of the accused be handed over to the victim’s family as compensation, police said.

The 13-year-old girl had gone missing from her home in J Block on Saturday. Her family filed a missing person’s report at Mahindra Park police station on Sunday.

However, her body was found in the forested area of Alipuri the same day. Police then registered a case of  kidnap and murder.

The body was sent for an autopsy and a 23-year-old man and a 17-year-old boy were arrested in connection with the case.

Both the arrested are neighbours of the girl and were friends with her, police said.

Policemen were deployed on Tuesday and Wednesday to disperse protesters who also demanded that the accused be handed over to them.
