Used his child and pram to shoplift,didn’t fool cameras

The owner of a guesthouse has been arrested for allegedly shoplifting expensive merchandise from city malls.

The owner of a guesthouse has been arrested for allegedly shoplifting expensive merchandise from city malls. Police said Sandeep Sharma used to visit the malls with his three-year-old child in a pram. Sharma would allegedly remove the sensor tags from the articles and slip them into a special compartment of the pram and walk out of the store.

The owner of Musicland store at Select Citywalk,Vipin Sethi,complained to the police when he found a master headphone,worth Rs 30,000,missing. Sethi reviewed the store’s CCTV footage,which showed Sharma stealing the headphone. Sharma made his child sit on the stolen article to conceal it and then exited from the store without paying,police said.

According to police,Sharma is a graduate from Delhi and has a hotel management degree from Mumbai. He owns a guesthouse in Gurgaon.

“The owner of the showroom had the CCTV footage to back his allegations. After examining the video footage provided by the showroom owner,the car of the accused was traced and the owner was tracked. A case has been registered and Sharma arrested,” said Chhaya Sharma,DCP (South).

During questioning,Sharma confessed that he had been stealing from malls using his child,police said.

He visited malls in NCR region and targeted small and expensive items. Police said since he removed the sensor tags from the articles,the security alarm never rang.
