In good news for some residents living in the NDMC area, the civic body is all set to come up with its first ‘high-end’ primary school at the recently developed New Moti Bagh, which is now home to senior bureaucrats.

The school is expected to be up and running after summer vacations end in July.

The Ministry of Urban Development (MoUD) has written to the NDMC,asking them to involve reputed schools in the area — such as Sanskriti,Modern School,Springdales,Sardar Patel,Delhi Public School RK Puram, among others — to participate in the operation and maintenance bidding of this novel play-cum-primary school constructed at the New Moti Bagh complex.

“This investment and facility is expected to open up a new avenue for NDMC residents with the play-cum-primary school, which would be operated by a reputed institution… While all costs towards the operation and maintenance of the school would be borne by the institution that qualifies,NDMC would provide all initial assistance in the project,” NDMC chairperson Tajdar Babbar told Newsline .

The MoUD has asked the NDMC to facilitate the opening up of the “best primary school” in the area. The NDMC,in turn, has written to all the schools mentioned by the Ministry to participate in the bidding process. The school building has a covered area of about 735 square metres with eight rooms (six on the ground floor and two on the first floor),developed on a plot of about 2,975 square metres.

A senior NDMC official said the school would admit 200 children, and preference would be given to residents of NDMC area. “However, while giving preference for admission, the provisions of the RTE Act and guidelines of the Delhi government,Central government and directions of the Court shall be followed,” he said.

The official said the operating institution would be finalised by the end of April, while the school is expected to be up and running by July, after all the infrastructure requirements are fulfilled and the school has announced admissions.

During this period,a management committee would be constituted to review the operations of the school and take the decision to improve the quality and contents of the services.

To be headed by the NDMC Secretary, the committee will also comprise NDMC’s Director (Education),Director (Estates) from the Ministry of Urban Development,NBCC’s Project Manager or his nominee, two members nominated by the operating institution and the head of the school.

“The school’s operating institution would be responsible for day-to-day running and also bear all operational costs of the school as per rules,” the official said.

The New Moti Bagh complex, also known as the “bureaucrats’ campus”,is home to Secretaries to various Union departments,High Court judges, chairpersons of Commissions among others.

The 992-house complex, developed by the NBCC over 30 acres, has 376 Type-VI apartments in six multi-storey towers for joint secretaries and additional secretaries in the government.

There are four 10-storey towers, four 9-storey towers, and two 8-storey towers. Then there are 102 Type-VII villas for senior secretaries to the government and 14 Type-VIII ministerial bungalows.
