Five persons, including two juveniles, were apprehended by the Crime Branch in connection with the murder of a jeweller’s wife in Mayur Vihar,East Delhi.

Police said the two juveniles were among those who had escaped from a juvenile home in October. Police claimed to have recovered a pistol each from the two juveniles.

According to police,on November 7,the woman,Madhubala Gupta, was found dead at her house. Nearly 50 kg of jewellery had been missing from the house, police said.

The Crime Branch, which is investigating the case, said cable operator Mahesh Gupta was arrested on Sunday on the basis of a tip-off. According to police,Gupta told them that he had robbed and murdered the woman with the help of five juveniles who had escaped from the shelter.

Police said the information helped them apprehend the two juveniles and nab Gupta’s associates, identified as Narsingh Verma and Ajay Rai.

“We recovered the stolen jewellery from the houses of Verma and Rai. Verma, who runs a jewellery shop in Kulashera village,Noida, needed money as his business had failed. Gupta, who was also in need of money, and Verma made a plan to murder Madhubala. A few months ago,Verma who knew Madhubala, took Gupta to Rai’s house to conduct a recce. Gupta, who knew the juveniles, roped them in to execute the plan,” a police officer said.

According to police,on the day of the incident, the juveniles went to the apartment complex in New Ashok Nagar with a stolen motorcycle, posing as courier boys.

They barged in and took the woman and her two children hostage. When the woman tried to stop them from robbing her house, they strangled her and fled with the stolen jewellery, police said.
