Two men were arrested on the charge of raping a 12-year-old girl in Greater Noida on Monday. Senior police officers said both men had promised to help the girl after she told them that she was trying to reach the house of her uncle, after escaping from a place where she was forced to work as a domestic help. The two have been identified as Arif,an autorickshaw driver, and his landlord Sanjeev Kumar.

Senior officers said the girl had been working at a home in Delhi, after she was dropped off there by her maternal uncle, who resides in Sundergarh. “The girl told us that she managed to escape on Sunday afternoon. An autorickshaw driver stopped his vehicle and promised to help. However,he took her to his house where he allegedly raped her. Immediately after,Arif’s landlord Sanjeev Kumar also allegedly raped her. Both men have been arrested,” a senior officer said.

Police said they were looking into allegations that the local police delayed registering a complaint for several hours. “The victim has alleged that after she made her way to Kasna police station, policemen made her wait for close to five hours. She said the policemen argued about the jurisdiction of the case. We will look into these reports and take action if any policeman is found guilty of dereliction of duty,” a senior officer said.
