Two persons were killed and two others injured when an oxygen cylinder exploded at a re-fill unit in Northeast Delhi’s Mustafabad area Friday morning.
According to police, the victims have been identified as Ganga Singh (30) and Firoz (28). Both worked at the unit. “The explosion was so massive that their bodies were blown apart. Two teenaged girls heading to school were injured. They were rushed to a nearby hospital,” said a police officer.
The owner of the unit also had to be admitted to hospital after he reportedly suffered a heart attack. A case of negligence has been registered but the cause of the explosion has not yet been ascertained, added the officer.
According to police, the incident occurred at 11.40 am.
“Glass windows of nearby premises were shattered. The single-storey unit, along with the boundary walls in the backyard, partially collapsed due to the impact of the blast. Locals called police and the fire department was informed,” said police.
