The hats gave way to light wraps and blazers,and the sunglasses came off early in the day as the winter chill descended. On November 17,the 112th edition of Indian Open Polo Championship took place at the Jaipur Polo Grounds,Race Course,with much fanfare and enthusiasm. As Jindal Panthers and Sahara Warriors gutted out on the field atop their horses,the crowd went hoarse from cheering for their favourite teams. Jindal Panthers,who have won three titles in the last 10 years,lost to Sahara Warriors. With a score of 8:7,Sahara Warriors lifted the trophy for the first time.
The audience included Lt Governor Najeeb Jung,Haryana CM Bhupinder Singh Hooda and Civil Aviation minister Ajit Singh. We also spotted Ashish Anand of Delhi Art Gallery (DAG),communications consultant Dilip Cherian,actor Sanjay Khan,and polo players Angad and Uday Kalan,among other polo aficionados. The event was hosted by Adhiraj Singh,CEO of Equisport Management Pvt Ltd,with partners such as Panasonic,DAG,Indian Oil and The Indian Express.
